How do I boot into safe mode?

Hold the “F8 Key” while the computer is in the initial boot sequence. This should bring up the “Windows Advanced Options Menu”. Use the keyboard arrow keys to move to “Safe Mode” and press your Enter key.

Is it safe to turn off a Windows computer without doing a shut down?

Windows users should not simply press the power button or restart the computer while the operating system is still running unless there is a nonresponsive issue with the computer. Microsoft has included the shut down feature because it enables a computer to go through all the necessary steps that are required before turning off the computer. Logs provide details about problems if the computer is not shut down properly.

What type of computer should you choose?

If you use your computer generally for word processing and spreadsheets, most “over-the-counter” systems should be adequate. The least expensive quality computer built today has adequate specifications to suit most normal user operation.

If you use your computer for complicated applications that require multi-tasking, large databases, computer-assisted drafting, or photo or video editing, you will require a more powerful computer. Processor speed, hard drive speed, RAM, and a good monitor are all important factors to consider.

Should you purchase a ``budget`` computer?

A budget is a major factor in determining the system you will purchase. When considering the cost of your processor, RAM, disk capacity, speed, and monitor are very important. If you are on a limited budget, try to get the most for your money in these areas. Also, remember that the quality of the system, reliability, credibility and support by the vendor before and after the purchase are points to consider.
